Life in Ariège is good
April 10, 2018

Over a month ago we packed our stuff and left Amsterdam in minus 10 degrees celsius, heading for the south of France. In Belgium we hit icy rain and freezing cold wind. But after we managed to pass the well-known horror around Paris that is called the Périphérique, the sun came out and life smiled at us broadly. A feeling of freedom took over. Not just because of the so much needed sunshine, but to have left the busy north of Europe. The crazy busy areas, stuffed with roads, highways, cities and buildings that make you feel suffocating. My chest opened up after passing Paris and the horizon broadened.
Stunning mountains with white blankets and skirts of clouds
After 1.500km we reached our destination: Ariège. Driving over the familiar roads, we felled warm and welcome. We crossed the beautiful town of Saint-Girons where nothing really had changed, to turn onto the road towards the valley that had stolen our hearts in 2016. With a smile on our face, we welcomed the view on the stunning mountains with open arms. The tops over 2.000meters high, covered in thick white blankets with clouds hugging the edges of the slopes and rivers rushing down like veins.
Spring is knocking on our door
Our house in Buzan is warm en gorgeous. Even though we had to turn on the fireplace every night during the entire month of March and start of April. In the short time that we are here, we have witnessed snow, hail, rain, wind and gorgeous sunshine with summer temperatures. Real mountain weather is what this area is known for. And I love it. It brings nature alive and spring is now knocking on our door. Everyday I take our dog out for a walk. From our house you can cross the tiny village and walk straight up the mountain. I have discovered already many different routes and every time I realise how lucky I am...
Love,
Sira
